It doesn’t amount (Firefall cover)

This is my first attempt at multi-tracking, it’s supposed to have lead guitar but I am posting it anyway. Thanks to Bob W. for helping to put the video right side up. It was partially done on a Teac A-3440 4 track reel to reel, mixed in with the original camera video. (You’re probably not supposed to do that).

Elysium Trailer

Full Length Trailer for Elysium Elysium is a 30 minute science fiction film that I co-wrote and co-directed with my friend Andrew Church. It is currently in post-production. I am creating all of the visual effect for the final film, and I primarily use the following pieces of software: Blender – 3D modeling, animation, lighting, and some compositing Adobe Premiere CS4 – editing Adobe After Effects CS4 – majority of compositing Adobe Photoshop CS4 – Matte paintings, texturing Syntheyes – 3D camera tracking The live action visuals were shot with a Panasonic HVX-200. One shot so far was captured with a Canon T1i DSLR camera. The film is a personal project, aimed at telling a simple story with professional looking visuals. I am a fourth year film student craft tracking in visual effects and compositing. www.elysiumthefilm.com www.marksniffen.com

Inside Mazda RX-8 on Summit Point Shenandoah Circuit

Somebody asked to see “spirited” shifting. What better way than on-track? I took this video at the May 2009 TrackDaze event on the Shenandoah. I learned from this video that I’m going faster than it feels like I’m going (the speedo is visible) and it doesn’t look all that “spirited”. Probably a good thing as steering nor shifting should be rushed. The RX-8 trans is good, but doesn’t tolerate “jam shifting” or shifting with high RPM differentials. Shift late, match revs. don’t force it. I’ve been tracking hard for two years and no trouble so far. My car is a stock 2005 RX-8 with Ecsta V700 tires, Hawk HP+ brake pads, and a B&B muffler. No traction or stability control. Camera is a Creative Labs Vado HD. Video could be better but I had to go through an extra transcoding to get the audio to work.

Nikon D3100 Preview

www.FroKnowsPhoto.com It is a huge day for Nikon Shooters and future DSLR camera owners. The announcement of the D3100 is a sign of things to come from Nikon. This will usher in a whole new crop (no pun intended) of sensors that should produce better quality photos and video. The D3100 will most likely be the first camera out of the gate with a D90 D300s and D700 replacements to follow. Let’s look at the main features I am most interested in in the new D3100. The new CMOS sensor is a step forward over the CCD of the D3000. It should produce much better still images at all the different ISO settings. Keep in mind, higher ISO is in no way a replacement for using faster glass (F1.4,1.8 and 2.8 lenses) The new sensor also gives the D3100 the capability of recording full HD 1080 video at 24 frames a second. At lower quality settings you have the option to change the frame rate. The coolest most exciting addition for me is the ability to have continuous Autofocus during video recording. This means you will have an easier time when zooming and tracking a subject to hopefully get your focus right. A side note is that your internal microphone will pick up the sound of the focus motors when recording video. I feel that this will be a very very solid camera for capturing still images. The new sensor will certainly make this a better camera in higher ISO’s. I do have a few concerns about this camera and they mostly fall on the video side of things. In my research so far I can not
